Millet Yogurt Bhath / Thinai Arisi Thayir Sadham

Thinai Thayir Sadham
Today's recipe is simple and comfort meal with Millet/Thinai Arisi and Curd, thinai arisi thayir sadham. I like millet substitute for rice than oats and brown rice. Millets get cooked fast and also tastes great than brown rice. So alternative days i cook millet for me as plain and have it with any side dish. Sometimes i like to make masala bhath, sambar sadham and this curd bhath. This thinai arisi thayir sadham is one quick one pot meal, healthy and filling too. Here i used fox tail millet but you can try the same recipe with other millets like little millet/kodo millet/barnyard millet.

Punjabi Kadhi Pakora / Punjabi Kadhi With Pakora ~ Punjabi Recipes!!

Today's post is an Authentic Punjabi Kadhi recipe / Punjabi Kadhi Pakora recipe which i learnt from my Neighbor Aunt. After moving to Aurora, we are happy to have two Indian Neighbors. And the two families were so kind, caring and helping people. Really its blessed to have such people around us. I am lucky to have such people around me after 3 years. Yes.,for the past 3 years we don't have any Indian neighbors. One of the neighbor family is from Punjab and the other family is from Himachal Pradesh. So you can expect more recipes from punjab & Himachal Cuisine soon.
This Punjabi Kadhi is not cooked by me and it was prepared by my neighbor Aunt. One fine day talking to Aunt, i asked for the kadhi recipe and she said tomorrow i am planning to make kadhi for guest than will give it to you. I said No, that i want the recipe for my blog and I myself asked her that shall i come tomorrow to take the pictures of kadhi making. Without a second thought, she said ok and the next day she called me after preparing the stuffs ready for kadhi making. I went and took pictures at their house. She helped me a lot and i enjoyed cooking this recipe with her.

Though she has some frozen homemade lauke pakoras in hand, she prepared fresh onion pakoras for me and explained everything patiently. I simply clicked the step wise pictures and final pictures. She also packed me a cup of Kadhi Pakora and we enjoyed it to the core. It tasted so good and flavorful. My sweet friend Gaury, she gave me her bowl, spoon and flowers to use for my pictures. She also suggested some ideas for presentation. She is very good at presenting, organizing and decorating things. Thanks gaury and aunty for this recipe and for your time. On that day, aunty prepared Garam masala powder also and i too the picture of that too. She is kind enough to share the recipe for my blog. Its really nice to have mom with us. Now i don't need to yearn for my mom, since aunty is here for me to help, luv and care. They are not my neighbors, they are my family :) Now off to the Kadhi recipe...

Mango Lassi / Mango Lassi(With Cardamom) / Mango Yogurt Drink !

Today's Recipe is another easy and delicious drink made using yogurt and ripe Mangoes, Mango Lassi. Lassi is a simple yogurt based drink and it can be made both savory and sweet drink. Sweet Lassi can be made with fruits also and here i have used fresh Ripe Mangoes and flavored with cardamom. Of all the fruit-yogurt based drink, this Mango Lassi is one of my most favorite drink. I love cardamom to my lassi but it is purely optional. You can even top it with some chopped pistachios also. There are lots of recipes for Lassi, some uses more yogurt and less milk, few even add some cream for rich and creamy taste but i like to add equal amount for fresh Yogurt and milk. So here's my recipe for Mango Lassi...

Oats Curd Bath / Savory Oatmeal

Today's recipe is one healthy, low calorie, filling and quick meal which is perfect for Breakfast or Lunch or even for dinner. Savory Oatmeal is my constant dinner menu, so comfort and satisfying meal to me. Compared to the sweet version i love this savory oats, even my kids love this savory oats. For garnishing i used pom seeds, raw mango but oats good with plain yogurt and a dash of salt. Tempering and garnishing makes it look more attractive, colourful and sure adds more taste and flavor.

Spiced Curd Ildy / Thayir Idli

Have You ever tried Idly with curd? I know Most of ur's answer will be "No" but this is one of my most fav lunch box recipe. yup.,i used to take podi idlis dunked in yogurt/curd for my lunch. But except me none like this combo at home or at school, my freiends never touched my box and sometimes don't even turn my side. All used to tease me, how you able to eat such combo? None of my friends touched my lunch box if it has idli & Curd, and used to treat me like a typical creature, even V won't sit near me if i have this curd idly on my plate. But i love Yogurt/Curd in any form n would like to have plain yogurt/curd with Idly, Dosa, Rotis, Upma, fruits and include it daily in my diet . And this curd idly & Curd Vada / Thayir Vada (south Indian style) is my most fav dishes. And this is a healthy & low calorie alternative for deep fried Thayir Vadai. Spiced curd idli is nothing but a podi idli dunked in plain yogurt/curd. Generally i do not add tempering to the curd but for the pics this time added tempering and it added extra taste and flavor to my favorite dish. Now am eager to know h many of u like this curd n idly combo :)

Broccoli Pesto Pasta / Creamy Broccoli Pesto Pasta / Whole Grain Penne Pasta With Broccoli Pesto

I rarely make Pasta/Macroni/Sphagetti recipes since my H doesn't like pasta so only for me and my kids i make once in a bluemoon. That too will use only whole grain pasta in my recipes. After a very long time made this super quick, healthy and yummy Broccoli Pesto Pasta. Love Broccoli in any form, when i saw this broccoli pesto in Raks Kitchen immediately i bookmarked it and finally today made this Yummy Pasta with slight variation. I have seen in some of the recipes adding greek yogurt or cream to broccoli pesto pasta so i tried adding hung curd/fresh thick curd and it worked out and the pasta turned out so creamy and yummy with broccoli crunch. My lil' one totally loved this pasta i did not add Parmesan cheese to my pasta its totally a low calorie and healthu version. You can serve it as a meal or as a salad. Either way its yummy and filling. Now to the recipe...

Homemade Yogurt Recipe / How to make Yogurt(Curd) at Home

Actually this is not a recipe but got more request to share How to make Yogurt/curd at home. Even some of my friends also asked to share this Basic Recipe. Yogurt/Curd is one of the staple ingredient in most of the house and we have the habit of including yogurt in our daily diet. I rarely buy yogurt from stores or mainly for the first culture. Otherwise i use only homemade yogurt, the store bought one turns sour soon and also it doesn't have that fresh flavor of curd. So i rarely use it and rely on Homemade ones. Homemade yogurt tastes so delicious, fresh and even after a week it remains fresh. I love buttermilk made out of Yogurt and Me and DH daily drink at least 2-3 glasses of Buttermilk.

Oats Spiced Buttermilk / Oats Buttermilk Porridge/Congee

Oats Spiced buttermilk / Oats Buttermilk Porridge, first Oats recipe in My space. Before My marriage because of some health issue i gained my weight little more. So Dr. advised to reduce weight and to follow strict diet, no junk foods, no deep fried snacks, no chocolate, ice creams, sweets n the list was too big n its all my fav :( But at the same time my health is also more important to me, so i sacrificed everything and about for a year n half i was in strict diet, medications n regular exercises. Only That time i was introduced to Oats n Oats recipes by dietitian. And this Oats Moor Congee was also taught by her. I used to take this for my breakfast, very simple healthy n filling recipe. A glass of this congee n a desired choice of fruit is enough to start your day in a healthy way.
As i was taking this for long time in daily basis, almost a year so i got strong aversion towards Oats n stopped adding oats to my diet in any form. More than 2-3 yrs i stopped it n recently felt that my aversion towards oats was reduced n started including it Weekly once or twice in idly, adai n paniyaram form(posting it soon). After a very very long time Friday made this Mooru congee for my breakfast n really loved it. And also wanted to share this healthy recipe with u. Now to the recipe...

Bhindi Do Pyaaz / Okra Onion Masala

Cooking With Onion is my theme For the 3rd week of BM n for day 1 am going to share Bhendi Do Pyaaz . When Valli announced this theme, very first recipe came to my mind was "do Pyaaz " which means cooking with double the addition of onions or more onions. Generally I love adding more onions to my cooking that too for dry curry, poriyals n stir fry too. This time tried Do Pyaaz with Bhendi/Okra. And it turned out so flavorful n delicious. Remember the tip given by my sister, adding yogurt/curd to any okra dry sauté gives nice taste n sliminess free okra fry/curry. So tried that too, over all Bhendi Do Pyaaz came out so well n tasted delicious. Sure a great combo with Rotis or even with Rice n Dal Tadka. Now to the recipe...

Chole Mint Bhat N Aloo Raita

Time for Blog Hop Wednesday, and for this Month again i am paired with Hema of Hema's Adugemane, yup last month also she was my pair but bcoz of my health i am unable to try n post a recipe from her space. This time i don't want to miss and i picked her Aloo Pudina Bhat. I slightly tweaked her recipe and tried with Chole/Chickpeas instead Aloo. To my surprise the combo worked out and was too tasty n flavorful. To pair with this i made Aloo Raitha/Potato Raita. This Aloo raita recipe was my creation which i tried after tasting a similar raitha recipe in our Temple Cafeteria. This raitha was my kid's fav...they even love this raitha with some tikkis/cutlets too. Both chole mint bhat n Aloo raita suited well and we had a super delicious and filling meal. Friends, do give it a try and let me know how it turned out to you. Now to the recipe...
