Onion Pakoda Recipe | South Indian Onion Pakoda | Vengaya Pakoda - Easy Tea Time Snack Recipe

Onion Pakoda Recipe
Onion Pakoda/Vengaya Pakoda is a quick and easy to make Instant tea time savory snack. This can be prepared in no time if you have besan flour and rice flour in hand. Not only as a snack, this onion pakoda makes a perfect side dish for any south Indian Variety rice, Rasam & Rice, Sambar Sadham etc.,I usually make Onion Pakora, north Indian style Pakora that is crispy and slightly soft texture. But this Onion Pakoda is crispy and crunchy ones that is similar to the ones we get in our Tea Kadai/Tea shops, Bakery Shops in Tamil Nadu. In salem(my home town), you can find this flavorful onion pakoda in any bakery shop, tea stall during noon & evening time. There are few bakery shops in Town area & Agraharam street where they prepare fresh pakoda every day. V is more fond of deep fried snacks and this onion pakoda is his most favorite of all snacks. But i rarely make it for him and I usually prepare the Pakoras/bajji kind of snack that is served with Chaat Chutneys or ketchup.

So this time, I prepared for him and to share it here on my blog. This Vengaya Pakoda doesn't require any dipping, crunchy and flavorful snack. Here,I used onions but you can also use cabbage to make Cabbage Pakoda, Spinach or any greens to make Keerai Pakoda. And Munthiri Pakoda with addition of Cashew nuts. I have already shared Cashew Almond Pakoda for kids, Bittergourd Pakoda/Pavakkai Pakoda really good snack for diabetic people.

Onion Kachori Recipe | Pyaz Ki Kachori Recipe

Pyaz Ki Kachori
Onion Kachori Recipe with step by step pictures. Winter Evenings sure needs some garam garam savory snack & Hot Beverage. Last week it was very cold, cloudy and rainy days. V was working from home for 2 days and he requested me to make some spicy snack. I know what he means by spicy snack, nothing but any deep fried savory delights. First I thought of making Punjabi Samosa but samosa making consumes much time for shaping and it was already 2 pm. Within 2 hours I can't finish cooking and clicking. Since after 4 there will not be enough light as it was really a dark gloomy day. So decided to make some Kachoris and with one quick and yummy Onion filling, Pyaz Ki Kachori|Onion Kachori.

Kachoris are in my to do list since long time, long back tried Peas Kachoris but it was like Stuffed pooris and not the crispy snack kind. I referred Vahchef's video for Onion filling and prepared dough on my own. I got good tips for making crispy kachoris/Samosa from my Neighbor Aunt. She said that for making crispy, flaky samosa and kachoris you need to add more oil to the flour, the flour should be mixed well with the oil first then use very little water to knead dough. Minimum 3-4 tbsp of oil for 1 cup of flour is needed. And then you get crispy, flaky and perfect punjabi samosa. 4 tbsp is 1/4 cup of oil for 1 cup of flour. But i don't want to add that much oil, so I tried with 1 tbsp oil and it turned out good at first attempt. The most important thing for crispy kachoris, that you need to fry them in right temperature. If its too hot then it will turn soft and become stuffed pooris, If it is less hot then kachoris will be oily and soggy. Please read all the instructions and notes before starting the recipe.

Cauliflower 65 Recipe | Gobi 65 | Crispy & Spicy Fried Cauliflower

Gobi 65 Recipe
Cauliflower 65 or crispy & Spicy fried cauliflower is a tempting and addictive snack and guess it is almost everyone's favorite from kids to aged person. There are tons of recipes for this cauliflower. I too have already posted Restaurant style Gobi 65, in which the cauliflower florets are dipped in a batter and then deep fried till crisp. But this recipe is super quick, so easy and doesn't require any batter. My MIL make gobi 65 this way but with Instant 65 Masala Mix. And once I saw Chef Dhamu's recipe on tv channel and recreated myself. Only thing there's no batter and everything is mixed like we do for Pakoda and deep fried immediately. This recipe sure gives you perfect crispy and yummy fried cauliflower.

This cauliflower 65 makes a perfect tea time snack with some hot beverages. Not only as a snack, this cauliflower 65 makes a great side dish with Tomato Biryani, Fried Rice, Rasam & Rice, Curd rice.
I wanted to post this recipe since long time and finally few weeks back prepared mainly to click some pictures for blog.

Masal Vadai Recipe | Masala Vada | Paruppu Vadai Recipe

Masal Vadai Recipe
Masal Vadai or Masala Vada is a popular south Indian snack that is prepared using Channa dal or yellow split peas. I can proudly say that this Masal Vadai is my signature recipe, I never made a failure attempt. Even if you ask me to cook with my eyes closed I can make this vada perfectly. I am a big fan for tea kadai Masal vadai and more than the Medhu vada i love this masal vada for snack or as a side dish with Rasam and rice.

In my hometown, there are plenty of roadside side shops where you can find Masal vada, Medhu Vada, Bajji, Bonda, Samosa, Onion Pakoda any time of the day particularly during noon and evening time. We lived the town Agraharam area for three years and the house where we lived was in main commercial street, so we have a favorite snack shop near our house and often we get masal vada, onion pakoda, vazhakkai baji especially during the Autumn/Winter season. But my dad do not allow us to get snacks from outside shops so my mom prepares all our favorite snacks at home. But there are some recipes which cannot make it perfectly and one such recipe is, Masal Vadai. Somehow she doesn't get a perfect crispy and tasty masala vada. Also she is not much fond of this vada so she doesn't make it often, I learned the recipe from my Grandmom with all the trick and tips.

Omapodi recipe
Moongdal Omapodi is one of my favorite savory snack. This Moongdal Omapodi is must in our Diwali Savory Snack along with Thenkuzhal Murukku, Ribbon Pakoda and Mullu Murukku. My Mom makes the best Omapodi, very yummy, crispy, crunchy omapodi. This tiny and thin Omapodi is quite addictive and you can't stop munching until it is over. This Moongdal Omapodi is entirely different from the Besan flour Omapodi which I posted long back. Moongdal Omapodi was in my to do list for a long time, Every year I kept postponing it and finally tried this year. I was so happy to see the outcome as it is my first try. My kids loved it a lot and named it as "Spaghetti Murukku". For this Omapodi you need fresh roasted and ground yellow moondgal flour and now with my new Indian Mixer it is easy to prepare homemade flour at home. Just to share here tried a small batch and planning to make a big batch for diwali.

Cutlets are a deep fried patties that can be made with veggies, meat, fish, paneer, tofu, beans and more. I often make patties/tikkis with veggies and legumes for my kids snack. They love to eat tikkis more than other snacks and these tikkis/cutlets are one easiest way to feed veggies to my kids. This time for a change tried with chicken, unlike other chicken recipes, chicken cutlets are easy to make if you have cooked potatoes and chicken in hand. You can also use any left over chicken from curries, chicken fry. I used the pressure cooked chicken which i made Chicken dry Curry recipe. Since i spiced the chicken already, i did not add much spices to my chicken-potato mixture. If you are using just boiled chicken adjust spices to desired taste and spiciness. Its me who always bother for perfect result and everything and sometimes worry for it and waste most of my precious time by simply sitting and starring at my pics whether to post it or not?  After spending almost an hour and a half, finally decided to share it here.
