Kadala Paruppu Sundal / Chana Dal Sundal ~ Easy Navarathri Sundal Recipe

Just only 5 more days for Navarathri and most of the Indian blogs are flooding with Sundal & other Navarathri related recipes. I too wanted to share few easy and quick to make sundal recipes here for the occasion. We do not have the custom of celebrating this Nine days Festival. But we lived in an Agraharam for more than 10 years and all the families in that area celebrate it in their own way and almost everyone keep kolu/Golu at their home and i love to watch the Golu settings-the lighting, toys(chettiyar bommai, marapachi bommai, park toys are my fav) and above all the Bakshenam they give on all nine days ;) I really enjoyed going to all the maamis' house to watch the Golu, they only give the bakshenam if we sing or recite slogam :) I don't know whether the maamis still remember us but i never failed to recollect the days where we had so much fun at their homes watching golu and eating all those yummy foods :)
This Kadala Paruppu Sundal is one such easy and tasty sundal with very simple preparation. It just needs boiling chana and a simple tempering, no onions, no coconut in this sundal recipe. Its even a perfect filling and healthy snack for Diabetic people.

Vegetable Rava Biryani / Rava Biryani - Easy & Quick One Pot Meal!

Today's Recipe is one easy & quick one pot meal with more satisfying taste & flavor - Vegetable Rava Biryani. Rava Upma is one such recipe which is not liked by most of the people, particularly men. Mr.V also hate Rava upma and never allow to me to cook it for him, i make it only for me and my kids. Upma is one of my fav breakfast/dinner menu. During my school days i even ask my mom to pack upma for my lunch box with sugar. I just love upma with sugar and plain yogurt.

Khaliat Nahal / Honeycomb Buns or Bee's Hive Buns

I love baking breads and it all happened due to Aparna's We Knead To Bake group, special Thanks to Aparna for all her best choices of Bread recipes and definitely i am learning new bread & baking technique every month. And for this Month we are baking Honeycomb Buns/Khaliat Nahal. This is one of the cute and softest bread i ever had. And so delicious and flavorful too. I just loved the aroma of freshly baked bread and these buns are so so good and addictive. Traditionally these buns are made as sweet with plain cream cheese filling, glazed with honey flavored syrup. I too baked the sweet version but with Sweetened Coconut, tutty frutti, & nuts filling. I think now i don't need to explain the taste of these buns, rt? My kids loved it to the core and they enjoyed eating the buns by dipping it in the sugar syrup. These buns makes a perfect tea time snack with some warm milk or hot chai.

Thanks to Priya & Veena for starting Lets Brunch On Sundays Event, in which a blogger should post any recipe on 2nd and 4th Sunday under no theme & specific rules. Really i need a commitment to post on Sundays or else i will be lazy and postponing it to Monday morning, afternoon or evening. Now this Event pushed me to come up with a recipe today. Today's recipe is one quick and yummy snack/starter, Dill Leaves Pakora. The weather started changing slowly and the early mornings and evenings are cold and chill. The chill evenings sure need a hot and spicy snack with soothing Chai/Coffee. This Dill Leaves Cabbage Pakora is one perfect snack for the Chill Evening with a cup fo hot chai. And its a very flavorful and yummy crispy pakoras. Not only for evening snack this can be served as a side dish for your lunch meal. Just a simple rice & rasam makes a great satisfying meal with this crispy pakoras.
Have tried Masala Vadai also with dill leaves but that day i couldn't take a pic of it but this clicked few pics of this aromatic and crispy pakoras. Without any further delay will move onto the recipe...

Honey Drizzled Semolina Cake / Semolina Cake

This month's Home Baker's Challenge, Shama of Easy 2Cook Recipes challenged us with 6 different savory muffins, sweet muffins & cakes. Of the six i tried this Honey Drizzled Semolina cake and the cake turned out super good and delicious. A very easy and simple cake with great taste. Thank you shama for this yummy choice of recipe and i really liked it. Sure this gonna be a keeper recipe. Here i used our regular semolina/sooji/white rava, I simply pulsed it in a blender and used it in the recipe. But the semolina flour will give you a perfect cake like texture, mine was bit crumbly and crust was bit crisp we loved it too.
I also added 1/4 tsp cardamom powder to the sugar syrup since i forgot to add Vanilla to the cake batter, so the cake was dominated by cardamom flavor and it was like a buttery Indian milk sweet. Do give it a try, definitely you will love it.

Bhel Puri - Easy & Healthy Chaat Recipe!

After a short four days break, am here with an easy and refreshing snack/Chaat recipe - Bhel Puri. Bhel Puri is nothing but a simple and easy to make chaat with rice puffs/murmura and one of my Hubby's favorite chaat. He love this bhel puri a lot and that too the one from Raj Bhog NJ is his most favorite. When we were in NJ, Raj Bhog chaats  & snacks shop is near to our apartment, just a 5 minutes walk to taste all those refreshing chaats and snacks in an affordable price. Really we miss NJ's Indian Restaurants, chaats  & snacks shops.
But i try to recreate all those chaats & snacks at home and this is Bhel Puri is one such recreated version and also i referred few sites and finally fixed with this simple version. The only thing is it should be served immediately as soon as its done but some people love the soggy rice puffs also, so its purely your choice. We love both crispy & soggy rice puffs.

Papdi Chaat / Papdi & Papdi Chaat Recipe

Today's recipe for Vegan Thursday, Papdi & Papdi Chaat Recipe. This is a simple & refreshing snack and one of my favorite chaat item. I have already posted a similar Papdi chaat with Papdis and freshly grated carrots and beets. This time i tried papdi at home and the result was not bad and not perfect. The papdis were super crispy but the papdi come out with lots of bubbles, so it does not look good otherwise the papdis tasted so good. V and kids did not bother about it and happily enjoyed the snack. Its me who always bother for perfect result and everything and sometimes worry for it and waste most of my precious time by simply sitting and starring at my pics whether to post it or not?  After spending almost an hour and a half, finally decided to share it here. Now off to the recipe...

Peas Chaat / Peas Masala Chaat Recipe / Green Peas Masala Chaat ~ Healthy & Refreshing Snack !

Mr.V love sundals(kind of legume salad) and he mostly prefer it for evening snacks. Though I am not much fond of sundals very rarely prefer Chickpeas/Channa sundal and i love eating these protein packed & fiber rich legumes in chaat form. Peas Chaat / Channa Chaat or any legume simply cooked and sprinkled with chaat masala and few lemon drops would make my snack plate more happy and filling.

This Peas Chaat  / Peas Masala Chaat is one such healthy & refreshing snack, a pure vegan recipe. This recipe was shared to me by my sister long back, 2 yrs back. I cook this peas chaat often but couldn't get chance & time to blog it. But this time made it for blog and clicked happily :) This peas chaat doesn't involve chaat chutneys since we add fresh cilantro, mint, tamarind, jaggery gives spicy, sour & sweet taste. But serving with chaat chutneys makes it even more tasty and refreshing. Without any further delay will move on the recipe....

Barley Adai / Barley Lentils Crepes / Barley Paruppu Dosa

This is another Healthy Breakfast / Dinner recipe with more nutritional value, rich in protein, fiber, low calorie and filling recipe perfect to kick start anyone's day. Its good for diet and diabetic people too. This is one of my recent experiment with Pearl Barley and Mixed lentils combo. Though Pearl Barley is low in protein content compared to the whole grain barley but low in calorie and the addition of lentils like Green gram, Orange lentils/Masoor dal, Tuvar Dal, Channa dal, Urad dal makes it a protein packed meal. The Barley Adai / Dosa is a Instant version it doesn't require fermentation and can be cooked soon after grinding. The dosa turned so crispy and tasty and i served with Kadamba Chutney, which i posted last week. The combo was so good and my kids loved this Barley Adai so much. For a change from regular Dosa & Adai, try this healthy and tasty Barley Adai. And also Pearl Barley are very cheap, healthy and easy to use and also available in all supermarket & Departmental stores. Great nutrition in an less or cheap price.
